Yi Xing teapots are wonderful artifacts from the province of Kiangsu, on the western shore of Lake T'ai-Hu in China. They are made of terracotta, by skilled artisans, using a mix of local clay that was once cooked and became of extraordinary hardness and strength. Yi Xing teapots and cups are small (so they seem like they're made for a dollhouse) and are traditionally used during the ceremony of the Gong Fu Cha, which is the Chinese Tea ceremony. In particular, the teapot for Gong Fu Cha should be as large as a man's hand or a little more. The pottery of Yi Xing are produced from ancient times and in hundreds of different models. From the Ming Dynasty, accessories are considered of great importance, so that the pieces created from the 16th to the 19th century are still faithfully reproduced. Their finish quality is truly remarkable and it is considered important to the porosity of the material, which must hold the "memory" of the Tea that was prepared. The sages say that a good old Yi Xing teapot remembers the aroma of the Tea which it contained so even after a few years you could prepare Tea without the leaves! The teapots, signed almost always, are greatly appreciated and collected by the scholars. Some teapots can reach prices of several thousand Euros.
All our models come from the most popular Yi xing artisans and are produced exclusively by hand according to tradition.
